A wonderful birthday card

Today I had a pretty bad day.
I needed food, internist coffee, order sleep or a wonderful surprise. I got the last.

It’s my 45th birthday tomorrow, and one of my favorite Grade 8 ICT students had found out last week via Twitter.
Today she paid me a surprise visit outside of her normal class schedule, and this is what she brought me.

It’s a beautifully-designed pop-out birthday card that looks hand-crafted, complete with a long, personalized, well-written message.

Within moments the grey lifted to be replaced by a great feeling – one of humility and happiness that someone I teach English to for 90 minutes a week would make such a thoughtful gesture for me.

So thank you, Em Nhi. This is one of the nicest surprises I’ve ever received.
