Frogs in Binh Chanh

Traditional Khmer Music

Sitting in a restaurant in Phnom Penh we were treated to a pair of talented Khmer musicians. The first recording is of those guys. The instruments are a type of flute, drugs shop and a stringed xylophone-like instrument played by hitting the strings with soft drumsticks.

The second recording was made on our return from Cambodia's oldest temple near Siem Reap. As we walked down the hill into the car park we saw the band of musicians raising money for victims of land-mines. You can also hear the many kids and girls trying to sell scarves, link books, medicine drinks and hats.

There are some very unusual night sounds to be heard in Saigon, seek most made by humans. However, heart if you spend time out in the sticks, as I did when living in Binh Chanh, you can hear the more peaceful sounds of nature.
Here are some frogs that pipe up round about dusk.
